About me
My background
I’m Dr. Agathe Scappini, a psychologist, sexology consultant, and psychotherapist in training at ISIPSE (Institute for Psychotherapy in Self Psychology and Relational Psychoanalysis) in Milan. I am also a researcher at Radboud University in the Netherlands. I was born and raised in Florence in a French-Italian family. Over the years, for both personal and professional reasons, I have lived in the Netherlands and in Turkey. These experiences have shaped my sensitivity and understanding toward expats, immigrants, and individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.I currently work in Milan and online, offering services in Italian, French, and English.

My passion
I have always been deeply curious about the intrapsychic processes that shape human behavior, relationships, and emotional life. I am particularly fascinated by people’s capacity to grow and change, as well as by the transformative and healing potential of relationships, especially the therapeutic relationship.

Faith in the healing process
I believe that psychological and emotional distress can be understood, transformed, and alleviated when it is met with care, attentiveness, and professionalism. I bring my whole self, along with passion and dedication, into this profession, which offers paths of discovery and transformation for both client and therapist.

Clinical work
In my private practice, I offer psychological counseling and support to adults, adolescents, young adults, couples, parental couples, and older adults.
I also collaborate with ASST Grande Ospedale Metropolitano Niguarda, where I provide psychological support to minors hospitalized for psychiatric disorders. In addition, I work as a psychologist at AIED Milan, a secular family counseling center. Alongside offering services of psychological support, I am involved in psychoeducational projects in schools, focusing on affective and sexual education, embodiment, and relational skills.

Research and teaching
Alongside my clinical work, I am engaged in research and teaching at Radboud University in the Netherlands. As part of my PhD project, I investigate the role of therapist responsiveness in the process and outcomes of psychotherapy. My research focuses on the subtle interpersonal processes that unfold during sessions and enable therapists to attune to and respond effectively to each client’s unique needs.I also supervise undergraduate and graduate students in their thesis projects and teach the principles of Person-Centered Therapy within the university course Psychotherapy.
